How I work as an event photographer before, during, and after the conference

When companies or organizations book a photographer for an event, it's not just about getting some good pictures. It's also about finding a partner who works in a structured manner, understands the purpose, and delivers without causing disruption. And that's the kind of photographer I am.

Here’s an overview of my typical approach to a project, from preparation to delivery.

Before the event: Preparation and aligning expectations

Before the camera even turns on, I make sure to understand what the event is about. What is the purpose of the images? Who is the target audience? Will the material be used for social media, press, internal communication – or all of the above?

We will go through practical matters such as:

  • Times and locations

  • Accessibility and program

  • Specific requests for subjects, people, or situations

I also take note of whether you need photos on the day itself, and what kind of atmosphere you want to convey.

During the event: Discreet presence and flexible coverage

Once the event starts, I usually work alone and unobtrusively. This means I move freely but discreetly, ensuring I capture both the overall picture and the details: everything from presentations and panel discussions to reactions in the audience, networking breaks, and the atmosphere of the room.

I always keep an eye on light, angles, and movement, making continuous adjustments without interrupting or staging anything.

If you need a selection of photos on the day, I can send a small selection directly from the location or shortly after.

After the event: Editing and delivery

The images are sorted and edited to match the visual expression you need, ensuring they appear professional yet natural.

You will typically receive all finished photos within 24 hours in both high resolution and web-friendly formats. The photos are delivered with full usage rights for your own channels, and I always save a backup for at least one month.

A process that provides peace of mind

As an event organizer, it's important to be able to trust that the photography runs smoothly. It's all about planning, presence, and delivery – and it all starts with good communication.
